Category page for hardware made by Sega, be it the home consoles such as the Genesis, or arcade system boards such as the NAOMI. Treasure originally developed exclusively for Sega consoles until 1997, when Mischief Makers was released for the Nintendo 64. Sega produced video game systems and were a major competitor for Nintendo from 1983 with their SG-1000 until the discontinuation of their final console, the Dreamcast in 2001. After that, they became a multi-platform third-party developer and publisher, as they are today. They are perhaps now best known for their video game franchises like Sonic the Hedgehog, Phantasy Star, Puyo Puyo, Ristar, Vectorman, ToeJam and Earl, Alex Kidd, Shenmue, Streets of Rage, Panzer Dragoon, Nights into Dreams, Ecco the Dolphin, Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, House of the Dead, Altered Beast, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Space Harrier, Wonder Boy, Samba de Amigo, Virtua Fighter, Yakuza, Seaman and others, though Sonic the Hedgehog is their most popular franchise, and the franchise’s titular character serves as the company’s mascot.
