The Sega Game Gear is an 8-bit handheld video game console made by Sega as a direct competitor to Nintendo’s Game Boy, unlike the Game Boy, the Game Gear has colors. Treasure only made two games for the system and both of them were ports of two of their Sega Genesis games, Dynamite Headdy and Gunstar Heroes, although both games were cut down, most notably, both games’ shoot-em-up levels were removed, likely because of the Game Gear’s hardware limitations, also, unlike the Genesis versions of those games, which were developed by Treasure in-house, they were outsourced to other developers, the Dynamite Headdy port was outsourced to Minato Giken, and the Gunstar Heroes port was outsourced to M2. The Game Gear was succeeded by the Sega Nomad, a system that could play Sega Genesis games on the go.
