Mega Drive

The Sega Genesis (known as the Mega Drive outside North America) is Sega’s most widely known video game console. It was initially released in 1988, being one of the key players in what would be known as the fourth generation of consoles, more commonly known as the 16-bit era, as it competed with the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and TurboGrafx-16. It is best known for being the console where the Sonic the Hedgehog series began and for being the system that Treasure developed their first six games on. It is the successor to the Sega Master System and it was succeeded by the Sega Saturn.
