Zeta Leo, often shortened to Z-Leo, is a major antagonist from Alien Soldier, essentially serving as the game's final boss. He appears in the 25th and final Stage of the game. Despite his anthropomorphic appearance, he is actually an artificial lifeform created through genetic engineering and cybernetics.

General Info[]

Not much else is known about Z-Leo, other than the fact that he is a member of Scarlet and judging by his appearance, he could presumably count as one of its leaders.

Extended Backstory[]

The backstory of Z-Leo began with his eldest "sibling" (or, so to speak), Sigma Fox, one of many genetically-modified creatures inadvertently created as a result of the "Alpha Plan" by the superhuman child genius Yu Misaki (the precursor to Fou Misaki). It also began with their "ancestor', Omega, an primordial lifeform believed to have been created by an unknown alien race from another galaxy and would one day be re-discovered by humanity.

At that time, Scarlet was the name of a research institute based in South America specialized in advanced genetic engineering. In response to the attacks carried out by the rogue mutants that would later form the terrorist sect known as "Scarlet", the Earth government established the Scarlet research facility in order to study their newfound capabilities and determine if they could be utilized in some way. The scientists there came up with a plan to "pacify" the mutants by further manipulating their genetic structure and training them to control machinery for peaceful purposes. Essentially speaking, the will of the mutated creatures known as "Mods" was bent to serve humanity and the two sides would live together in peace (although there were some mutants that still a deep hatred towards the humans). Or so they thought...

Because of her exceptionally high I.Q., Yu Misaki was free from isolation and became appointed as the new head of the Scarlet institute. As the new head of Scarlet, Yu began to make her own contributions to the "Alpha Plan" (such as the idea to incorporate the parasitic capabilities of the mutant lifeforms into their experiments so that they would be able to parasitize humans, animals and machinery). Unfortunately, this plan would later proved to be disastrous.

The real trouble began with the birth of Sigma Fox, the 6th Perfect. Due to her inheriting the genetic code from the Mods, Sigma Fox and eventually her "siblings" have acquired the mutants' hatred for mankind. Immediately after being born, she parasitized her creator Yu Misaki and took control of her body. Together, she, along with the other mutants, began to rebel against their creators and declared war on humanity, later forming the terrorist sect now known as "Scarlet" (named in homage to the research institute they were created from). Together, they took control of the Scarlet research facility and continue to run the "Alpha Plan" in hopes of creating more super-soldiers to further expand their army (including Xi-Tiger, Z-Leo, Epsilon-Eagle and possibly others).

Armed forces (including the X-Ages) were dispatched to liberate the Scarlet institute from the mutants and capture Yu Misaki, but they were quickly defeated (with some being forced to retreat).

Scarlet, now lead by Sigma Fox (who had already possessed Yu MIsaki as her own), continued to follow along with the Alpha Plan. More and more "Perfect" lifeforms were being brought to life and the Plan was neared to completion. These mutants were slowly becoming stronger and more powerful than the last. Z(eta) Leo was one such example. He is incredibly powerful, possessing a fully armed and armored body covered in impenetrable body armor and strong cybernetics. That was until he was surpassed by Epsilon Eagle, who possesses a will of pure evil and the ability to teleport through space and time.

Afterwards, the two would finally come face to face aboard an orbital space station, where Z-Leo was finally defeated by Epsilon-2.

Trivia[]

Judging by his name, he could presumably be based on the Lion, despite his werewolf-like appearance.
